Teatro de la Laboral

The City of Culture

La Laboral City of Culture is the result of a transformation project undertaken by the Government of the Principality of Asturias in 2001 aimed at injecting new life into the old Universidad Laboral building in Gijón.

This endeavour was completed in March 2007 with the birth of the La Laboral City of Culture, a veritable 21st century cultural metropolis where there is room for all types of shows and leisure options.

The headquarters of the Principality of Asturias Radio and Television company in the old convent of the Order of St. Clare nuns, LABoral Art and Industrial Creation Centre, the Integrated Vocational Training Centre, the Corinthian Courtyard where the shop is to be found, the Tower, the School of Dramatic Art, the Church, the Café, the Theatre, the Assembly Hall and the Jovellanos University School, are just some of the spaces that have found a home in the City of Culture.

The task of refurbishing this monumental building for new uses related to the world of culture, training and creation, is still a work in progress; an exciting ongoing process in which spaces such as the Hotel, the small student flats and the gardens are gradually taking shape and completing this unique city.

Laboral
